The major network agencies are strangely shy about their size, power
Why should this be so, when they are equipped to deal with any challenge a client is likely to face? asks David Wethey in Marketing Week on 4th August 2005.
  Linda Radford
Managing Director - South Africa
Linda After graduating from the University of Cape Town, and a temporary career diversion in the retail and manufacturing segments of the clothing industry, Linda moved to Johannesburg to commence her career in advertising and marketing communications.

Linda 'cut her teeth' on packaging and promotions at Greathead Associates, working on a range of blue chip FMCG and Cosmetic clients.

In 1989, she joined J. Walter Thompson as an Account Executive on Kellogg. During her 7 year tenure, she worked across a broad portfolio of local and multi-national clients as Business Director and subsequently Strategic Planner. The highlight was running the communications campaign for South Africa's first democratic election (albeit with her 1 month old baby on her hip!)

In 1996, Linda joined McCann-Erickson (subsequently Herdbuoys McCann) as a Board Director and Business Unit Director on Boots Healthcare, L'Oreal, and as Regional BUD for AMEP for Reckitt Benckiser.

In 1998, the offer to join Ogilvys on the KFC and local pay television portfolios proved irresistible. Participation in career development, evaluation procedures and training for the Account Management Department, Staff and Client Inductions and the Ogilvy Africa Programme, fuelled Linda's interest in training, and the development of more effective advertiser/agency relationships and procedures.

In 2002, Linda elected to indulge in a somewhat belated 'maternity leave'. She returned to the communications industry as a marketing and advertising communications consultant for Tip-Offs Anonymous and Weylandts Homestores. She also commenced lecturing at the AAA School of Advertising in their part-time Account Management course. Linda has developed ServiceSETA marketing communications training modules.

An article on David Wethey in the 2004 Adfocus, lead to Linda approaching AAI to become their South African affiliate.

Linda lives in Johannesburg with 1 husband, 2 children and 2 cats. Her interest in sport is limited to a weekly tennis lesson, and equestrian environmental patrols of the Braamfontein Spruit.
